Statistics: Net investments in Romanian economy advances 5pct in Q1 2020
Net investments in Romania's economy totalled 18.447 billion lei in Q1 2020, up 5% from the same period in 2019, according to provisional data published on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The upswing was the result of increases in new construction works (+ 20.3%) and an 8.8% rise in equipment (including modes of transport).
On the other hand, the "Other expenses" section saw a decrease by 37.3% in Q1 2020 vs Q1 2019.
Regarding the structure of net investment by activities of the national economy, official statistics show that 33.5% went to construction (compared to 31.9% in Q1 2019), 28.2% to industry (26.9% in Q1 2019), 24.2% to trade and services (23.1% in 2019) and 5.7% in agriculture (4.6% in Q1 2019).
In contrast, investment in the "other branches" segment decreased from 13.5% in Q1 2019 to 8.4% this year.
Net investment represents spending on creation of new fixed assets, development, modernisation and reconstruction of existing ones, as well as the value of services related to the transfer for a fee of ownership of existing fixed assets and land taken over from other units or the population (notary fees, commissions, transport, handling expenses, etc.).
