Study: over 50% of the interviewees think that the present crisis will last not more than 2-3 months

The Romanians do not show much optimism as regards the evolution of the epidemics covid-19, so that four out of  ten Romanians think that the number of infections will grow exponentially and worry that it is possible to get the virus during the period to come, shows a study made online, during the period 19-25 March, by the market research company 4service group Romania, which shows that over 50% of the interviewees think that the present crisis will last more than 2-3 months, and six out of ten Romanians consider that there will be a major economic crisis.

‘Over 92% of the Romanians say that they are worried or even very worried for themselves and the beloved ones during this period and only 3% of the interviewees stated that they do not worry about it. The degree of concern of the Romanians grows directly to their age’ the survey says.

However, those in small towns, under 50,000 inhabitants, are more relaxed as compared to those in Bucharest or the big cities. In a comparison on regions, the Maramures and Banat are the least worried by the way in which the epidemics goes.

The television is stil the most important source of information for the Romanians during this period, being mentioned by over 71% of the interviewees. It is followed by the official channels used by the authorities and social media. The press sites occupy the fourth place, followed by the opinions of the doctors and friends, relatives or acquitances. The least percentage are recorded in the case of the radio, the survey says.

Among the measures of prevention applied the most often by the Romanians are washing of hands, mentioned by over 94% of the interviewees, avoidance of the crowded places or queues or crowds (89%), use of disinfection products  (86%), avoidance of going out of the house (71%), protection masks (40%) and telework (22%).

Similarly, almost a quarter of the interviewees stated that they pray daily.

The research made by 4Service shows that the optimism of the Romanians is anti proportionally with age. In general, the young people consider that the present situation will last less, while the interviewees aged over 65 are most pessimistic.

At the same time, over 43% of the interviewees consider that the number of cases of coronavirus will grow exponentially. Almost 30%  consider that the rate of growth of infections will grow constantly, but horizontally. Only one out of ten Romanians think tha the authorities will manage to keep under control the number of cases and only three out of one hundred Romanians estimate that the number of infections will drop in the period to come.

As regards the work places, 58% of the interviewees say that they develop their activity in special conditions, such as work at home, reduced programme, no activity with the public, flexible programme.

‘The Romanians worry for the safety of their workplaces.Over 69% of them say that they are worried or even very worried not to lose their jobs. Similar percentages appear in the case of a member of the family. Only 17% stated that they do not worry in this matter’ the survey says.

The study was made by the market research agency 4service group Romania between 19 and 25 March, online, on a sample representative at national level of 1,564 interviewees from the urban and rural environment aged between 18 to 65+. The survey has a trust interval 98% and a margin of error 2.94%.
