Study: The Romanians feel the lack of interaction and the exchange of information wit their colleagues when they work at home
Half of the Romanian employees felt isolated from their colleagues during the period when they worked at home (telework) while 27% supported they were still connected for team work, according to a study made by Colliers International in 25 countries, including in Romania. ‘ In exchange, in the countries in Central and Eastern Europe is totally vice-versa- 62% of the interviewees consider that they are connected similarly with the team and if they work at home and only 29% fell isolated. The spontaneous meetings with their colleagues- this is what the miss most the workers in the region when they work at home (68%)’ shows the study made by Colliers International through data collection online from 4,400 interviewees, between March and April 2020.
In Romania, 75% of the interviewees feel the lack of physical interaction with their colleagues during the working day, and for 67% of the interviewees the fact that there is no clear delimitation between the office work and that from home. Similarly, only 42% indicate spontaneous meetings with their colleagues among the aspects which they lack most since they work at home.
In this context, most feel isolated and lack the meeting with their colleagues, even if work at home meant for a part of them a better balance between personal life and the professional one, shows the mentioned study.
The research showed that work at home is a challenge for most Romanians who worked în telework in the epidemics context as only13% of them say they have space dedicated to professional activity at home, half of the level recorded in countries in Central and Eastern Europe (ECE).
The lack of an office or a working space dedicated in the residence, 45% of the Romanian interviewees say that the living room is the main place where they develop their work activities, similar to half of the interviewees in Central and Eastern Europe (ECE).
This way, 40% of the total number of interviewees say they have difficulty in working from home, and feel sometimes they have low capacity of concentration as in the same space their children have school work or they relax.
But, even in these conditions, the Romanians continued to work efficiently, show the conclusions of the study Colliers International. Most interviewees (ECE -51%, Romania -54%) consider that they as productive during the period of work at home, and even for 21% of the interviewees in the countries ECE and 23% of those în Romania productivity has increased.
At the same time, 44% of the Romanian interviewees say that the balance between the professional life and the personal one has improved since the house has become working space, a higher percentage than the recorded one in countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
The study makers say that most of the companies who put focus on telework had already implemented the concept ‘work from home’ from the period previous to the pandemics. Concretely, both at the level of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe and in Romania, over 60% of the interviewees worked occasionally at home, and 31% of the interviewees in Romania and 23% in the countries in the region say they did not work as telework at all before this period.
