The governmental debt was in February 2024 – 52.4%of GDP
The debt of the public administration (governmental debt) went up, in February 2024 to 841,292 billion lei, from 801,687 billion lei in the previous month, according to the data published by the ministry of finances (MF).
As a percentage from GDP, the governmental debt has increased from 52,4% from 49,9% in January.
In the second month of the year, the medium and long-term debt has increased at 786,851 billion lei, from 759.95 billion lei in January, and the short term one has increased at 54,441 billion lei, from 41.737 billion lei in the previous month
Most of this debt, 687.897 billion lei, was represented by government securities. Borrowings amounted to 140.163 billion lei.
Debt in national currency amounted to 397.022 billion lei, debt in euro to 359.333 billion lei equivalent and debt in US dollars to 83.635 billion lei equivalent.
Central government debt also reached RON 820.105 billion in February 2024, up from RON 780.874 billion in January, of which RON 765.7 billion was medium and long-term. The bulk of central government debt was contracted in lei (380.146 billion lei) and in euro (355.023 billion lei equivalent).
Local government debt rose to 21.187 billion lei from 20.813 billion lei in the previous month, of which 21.149 billion lei is medium and long-term.
At the same time, domestic general government debt stood at 406.344 billion lei (25.2% of GDP) in February 2024, of which 390.038 billion lei was central government debt and 16.305 billion lei local government debt.
According to MF data, the general government external debt was 434.948 billion lei (27.1% of GDP), of which 430.066 billion lei was central government external debt and 4.882 billion lei local government external debt.
