The minister of agriculture: the vegetables stocks milk and wheat are sufficient at present
The domestic production of vegetables, milk and wheat is sufficient at present for the consumption of food for the Romanians, stated on Monday the state secretary in the ministry of agriculture and rural development (MADR) Emil Dumitru.
‘ The domestic production of vegetables is a seasonal one. It started in spring, it is clear we have a series of fresh produce in the spaces protected in Romania. There are no problems, at present, as we have a data basis from the ministry of agriculture on the domestic production of some vegetables. Some of them, naturally, came from import or intra-community commerce. There are some problems with the transport on those green corridors,but we have no problems with the supply of vegetables (..) We can replace what is goods from intra-community commerce with domestic production, by dedicated measures both fiscal and financing measure, from European funds for agriculture, to support our farmers to produce for the market, and not have problems in the consumption of the population with basic food’ Dumitru said for Digi 24.
The MADR official added that, as regards the milk market, although there are few commercial channels, there are sufficient stocks
‘ The milk market, Romania produces sufficient for consumers. The issue is that, at present, we have few commercial channels. Practically, hypermarkets are the main source of acquisition for food. Here, due to a general emotion generated by coronavirus, there were queues, but we have stocks and we are prepared, at least for the moment. We have some problems with pork, as a result of the African pest and not only in Romania but in other in member states, as we try to insure the consumption of food for the Romanians’ Emil Dumitru said.
In the secretary of state’s vision, through the measures adopted by the authorities, they can increase the vegetable production capacities, as well as the industry of breadmaking.
‘ The domestic production supported by measures as the government adopted over the last period, may increase the production capacities. If we discuss about the breadmaking industry where we have sufficient stocks of wheat, we can increase our production capacities and stop acquiring products from the intra-community commerce’ Dumitru mentioned.
