The new route of the Teutonic Knights - inaugurated this weekend

A new cultural-touristic route - of the Teutonic fortresses - will be inaugurated this weekend in Brasov County, on the occasion of the Open Days of Feldioara Fortress, an event that will take place at the same time as the 11th edition of the Festival "The Teutonic Knights return to the Marienburg Fortress".

Called the Route of the Teutonic Knights, this new cultural tourist route certified by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism links the Teutonic fortresses of ?ara Bârsei, and in the future, after certification by the relevant body of the European Union, it will make a connection with the other buildings of the Order of the Teutonic Knights in Europe.

The initiative to create this tourist route belongs to the town hall of Feldioara, in partnership with the Museum of Ethnography Brasov, but discussions on the benefits that such a route, certified at national and European level, would bring to tourism in the region of Tara Barsei, have existed since 2019.

The future route, which will be the third cultural-tourist route certified in Brasov County (after the Transylvanian Gates and the Transhumance in the Ciucas Mountains), is 350 km long and connects 9 localities in ?ara Bârsei.

According to Roxana Niculescu, the area representative of MAT the main purpose of the project was the promotion of the Teutonic fortresses as well as of the tourist attractions in the area, such as gastronomy and local crafts, adventure tourism (raffling, kayaking, etc.) and tourism with medical benefits.

"Last but not least, it will also promote city break tourism, because we want and hope that, with the opening of the airport, we will attract even more foreign tourists to the area," Roxana Niculescu told a press conference on Tuesday.

For interested tourists, MAT has already prepared a 7-day programme, with suggestions of places to visit and places to taste the local cuisine.

"I'm glad that, starting this year, we'll be launching a new route in Feldioara, the Teutonic Knights of Tara Barsei. (...) We have a lot of fortifications, we have a lot of history in Brasov county and this must be promoted", said the mayor of Feldioara, Sorin Taus.

The festival "Teutonic Knights return to Marienburg Fortress" and the Open Days of Feldioara Fortress will take place on 2-3 September. During these, the public will be able to attend the famous Teutonic Knights Parade and concerts - of old music, brass band, light music (Paula Selling and Zdob and Zdub) and organ (in the local Evangelical Fortified Church). For those interested, the organisers have also prepared a military camp and a games and crafts workshop with local craftsmen. Last but not least, the public will be able to visit, free of charge, the Marienburg Fortress, restored in 2018, with all three towers and its exhibitions.
