The Romanian Academny welcomes the decision of the government to resume the procedure for the registration of the site Rosia Montana on the list of UNESCO world heritage (UNESCO – the Organisation of the UN for Education, Science and Culture).
‘The Romanian Academy, loyal to its firm position to defend the national cultural values, to conserve the riches of Romania’s underground and to protect the natural environment – position expressed on several occasions – welcomes the decision of the Romanian government to resume the procedure for the registration of the site Rosia Montana on the list of UNESCO world heritage’ sent the institution in a press release.
The institution also said that ‘ it is ready to support the state authorities and other entities interested in the conservation, restauration and putting to value of historical and cultural monuments in Rosia Montana, to draw up a General Urban Plan for the sustainable development of some beneficial economic activities for the inhabitants and the stimulation of cultural tourism of national and international interest in this important region of the Apuseni Mountains’.
The minister of culture Bogdan Gheorghiu announced on Friday that, following an analysis and consultations decided to resume the registration of the site Rosia Montana on the list of UNESCO world heritage.
He also mentioned the fact that he has the support of the government led by Ludovic Orban who announced on Tuesday that he supported the registration of the site.
