The Spanish minister of foreign affairs: Navalnii’s detention, arbitrary; we have requested the Russian authorities to release him
The Spanish minister of foreign affairs, Arancha Gonzales Laya stated on Wednesday that the detention of the Russian opponent Aleksei Navalnii is’arbitrary’, being requested his release.
‘As regards Aleksei Navalnii, we see this decision as being arbitrary, not only the decision itself but the European Court of Human Rights stated that it is an arbitrary detention indeed. We have requested the Russian authorities to release Mr.Navalnii. Now, as referring to the answer adopted by Europe, besides the firm position with regards to detention, we will see what happens at the level of the European Union’ the head of the Spanish diplomacy said, while on an official visit to Bucharest.
In a joint press release with minister Bogdan Aurescu, Arancha Gonzalez Laya mentioned the fact that the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell will be on an official visit to Rusia from Thursday to Saturday,and this visit will show ‘what way the European Union must take’
In his turn, minister Bogdan Aurescu expressed his hope that the visit of the High Representative to Russia ‘ will represent the opportunity to send a very strong signal’.
