Thousands attended party at Elisabeta Palace to celebrate May 10, the Day of Romania's Royalty
Thousands of people attended on Wednesday a garden party at Elisabeta Pace in Bucharest to celebrate May 10, the Day of Romania's Royalty.
Hosting the party were Crown Princess Margareta, Prince Radu and Princess Maria, with the royal family showing up at the balcony at 17:00hrs to greet the attendees. Afterwards, they came out to talk to the guests.
Margareta was warmly welcomed by the revelers, most of whom wished good health to ailing King Mihai I.
During the party, the Representative Brass Band of Romania's Defence Ministry and the Military Choir staged a concert in the garden of the place.
Among the attendees were Chairman of the Romanian Academy Ionel Valentin Vlad; Ombudsman Victor Ciorbea; Chairman of the Federation of Romania's Jewish Communities Aurel Vainer; Agriculture Minister Petre Daia; politician Daniel Constantin; author Teodor Paleologu; doctors Irinel Popescu, Dorin Sarafoleanu and Monica Pop; Apostolic Nuncio in Romania Miguel Maury Buendia; US ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm and Israel's ambassador Tamar Samash.
Also attending were invitees from all of Romania's counties and Moldova, central and local administration officials, academics, cultural figures, scientists, politicians, leaders of the civil society and the business community, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and the clergy.
The same day, Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu, together with Princess Maria, laid on Wednesday a wreath at the statue of King Carol I of the Royal Palace Square, on Royalty Day.
On this occasion, a military ceremony took place, and the manifestations in the Royal Palace Square commenced with a recital of the Army's Representative Orchestra.
Military of the 30th 'Mihai Viteazul' Guard Regiment presented arms. In the end, they offered the public a demonstration of weapon skills. The event was attended by representatives of the Gendarmerie.
A group of monarchists, some of them, representatives of the National Alliance for the Monarchy Restoration, waived flags with the royal insignia, placards with the portraits of King Mihai and Princess Margareta.
On May 12, the Mihail Jora Concert Hall of the Romanian National Radio Broadcasting Corporation will host a concert celebrating May 10. Performing will be the National Radio Orchestra conducted by William Kunhardt. Violinist Eugen Sarbub will give a solo performance. The public will listen to the Royal Anthem by E. Hubsch, Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, and Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98 by Johannes Brahms. Princess Margareta will be in attendance.
The series of events dedicated to the Romanian Royalty ends on May 14 with a King's Cup oina competition at the Arcul de Triumf stadium, as the Romanian Oina Federation operates under the aegis of King Mihai.
