USR asks for FinMin’s resignation for forging data on the budget deficit
Save Romanian Union (USR - opposition) is asking for the Finance minister’s resignation, accusing him of forging the statistics of the budget deficit for 2018 by „sabotaging the national economy”.
„It has been increasingly clear in the past months that the Romanian state was not coping with the expenses anymore. The deficit target of 3 per cent was as good as surpassed. That’s why the state was in the hazards lights mood and started delaying all payments that could still be postponed. Among these payments there were also the VAT reimbursements, meaning money which did not belong to the state,” USR deputy Claudiu Nasui told a press conference.
Nasui also said that the state kept money that was not his just to stay within deficit. „Meaning, the Government was not only forging data on deficit deliberately, but it also sabotaged the economy by retaining the money of the Romanian enterprises,” he argued.
The deputy also pointed out that several days ago, mass media released a piece of news that went unnoticed, namely that the tax revenue body-ANAF- is reimbursing VAT worth RON 2.6 billion in March.
„The monthly average of the VAT reimbursement is RON 1.4 billion. What happened with all these sudden high reimbursements? In November last year, the Government freaked out for the deficit exceeded the target of 3 per cent. The exceeding deficit was the clearest signal that the Government is lying. That, despite all tax rises, they still have got enough money. So, what the Finance minister considered doing? Just to not give back the VAT money to the companies (…)”, the USR lawmaker stated.
