Water scandal in Bucharest: Health minister says chlorine concentration level in water is within admitted levels
Health Minister, Sorina Pintea, says that following the water analysis in sectors 4,5 and 6 it was proved the chlorine concentration level in water was within admitted levels, but people should be prudent when they use it. DSP representatives say the situation is a first.
“DSP presented the analysis bulletin today. They took samples in sectors 4,5 and 6 and chlorine level in water is within admitted levels. Until the completion of the micro biologic analysis we recommend prudence. These measures were taken following the reports made by citizens who had allergic reactions or asthma crises,” health minister Sorina Pintea declared on Thursday.
“Water sampled were collected by qualified DSP personnel. There were rumours that the personnel was not authorised. I assure you they were, “Pintea said.
On the other hand, representatives of the Public Health Department (DSP) said the situation was a first. “Free residual chlorine and total chlorine returned to normal. Values are normal. As DSP sent samples to the National Public Health Institute to determine parameters, we expect results on Monday. There is no reason for alarm. There have never been problems from the micro biological point of view. This is a first,” said Laura Ciuca, DSP representative.
Sorina Pintea pointed out there is no protocol between the Health Ministry and the water supplier.
Apa Nova informed on Thursday morning that analysis results reconfirm and attest that water distributed by the company to consumers was drinkable. The water supplier also mentioned that the chlorine concentration went up because of the melting snow and ice, but values were within normal limits.
On Wednesday night the Health Ministry recommended people from Bucharest not to use water for drinking and preparing food.
