Cars: Logan, Duster and Sandero in top 25 of best sold cars in Russia
Duster, Logan and Sandero were in the top of best sold 25 cars in Russia in May, according to data published on Wednesday by the Association of European Businesses (AEB). However, deliveries of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in that market dropped by 14.5% to 107,665 units, on the background of problems confronting economy and the depreciation of the rouble, according to Reuters.
In April, car deliveries in the Russian market dropped by 8.5%, the lowest level in the last 10 years.
The top of best sold cars in Russia last month included Lada Granta (7,967 units), made by AvtoVAZ, followed by Solaris, from Hyundai (7,627 units), Rio from Kia (7,569 units) and Duster with 4,151 units. Sandero and Logan ranked 9th and 12th with 2,366 and 2,319 units.
In the first 5 months of 2016 , 548,119 cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia, on the drop by 14.7% compared to the same period of 2015.
Car sales in the Russian market dropped by 36% last year on the background of the Russian economy entering recession, because of international sanctions and the dropping price of oil. This year, demand will probably drop by another 4.7% to 1.53 million vehicle, according to Joerg Schreiber, the president of Association of European Businesses.
Renault has a participation of 50% in the holding company controlling AvtoVAZ, while the Japanese partner Nissan Motor Co. owns 17.13%, while the Russian state corporation Rostec holds a package of 32.8%. Together Renault, Nissan and AvtoVAZ were responsible for about a third of the 1.6 million new cars sold in Russia last year. However, their combined sales dropped by 32% at annual rate.
