IT market drops to 275 million euros in first 9 months (study)
The IT market dropped by 13% in the first 9 months of the year, compared to the same period of 2015, to 275 million euros, a GfK Temax study shows.
A bigger drop was recorded by the photo market - 14.2% to 16 million euros. The printer and multifunctional device market dropped by 0.4% over January- September 2016, to 45 million euros.
The large household appliance market grew the most by 26.2% to 384 million euros, followed by small household appliances with 23% (to 115 million euros) and electronic appliances with 22.1% (to 261 million euros). The telecommunications market grew by 18.8%, compared to January - September 2015 period, to 550 million euros.
On the overall, the market grew by 13.2% to 1.645 billion euros.
The IT market in Romania recorded sales of 92 million euros in the second quarter of the year, dropping by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year, a GfK Temax study shows.
According to it, three of the most important segments of the sector - desktops, portable computers and tablets continued to drop compared to the third quarter of 2015.
The photo market in Romania generated sales of 5 million euros, on the drop by 10%.
“The market of long term use goods grew by 9,5% in the third quarter, compared to last year. Three of the seven sector - electronics, bug and small household appliances - recorded growth rates of two figures. The biggest drop was recorded by the IT sector (15%). In the third quarter, electronics recorded 92 million euros- an increase of 24$, compared to quarter 3, 2015. TV sets grew with over 24% and represented 85% of sales in this sector. Loudspeaker sales also grew,” the document shows.
According to the source, sales of large household appliances were of 157 million euros, representing a growth of 23% in quarter three compared to the same period of 2015.
“Incorporated household appliances continued to grow at high rate, exceeding the growth rate in the sector. Dryers recorded the biggest increase of +84% compared to 2015. The most important segment of the market - vacuum cleaners- recovered and recorded a 36% increase. The value market can be now compared to the level prior to the economic crisis. Hair care appliances, fryers, also recorded sale growths of over 30% in the third quarter”, GfK Temax informs.
While sales in the telecommunications market grew (+8%) the increase rate on the smart phone segment slowed down, reaching a 9% growth compared to 2015.
“The phablet segment recorded a drop of two figures. This kind of product is not very attractive to Romanian consumers. Headphones with microphone grew by 30% compared to 2015 and contributed to the increase of the sector,” the study shows.
GfK Temax is an indicator used by GfK Retail and Technology to monitor markets of long use goods. Results are based on studies made regularly on the retail panel of GfK. This panel includes data from 425,000 sales points in the world.
