Tourism : More than nine million people stayed in tourist units in Romania, 8 months into 2023

Approximately 9.39 million people stayed in tourist accommodation structures in Romania (including apartments and rooms for rent), in the first eight months of the year, an increase of 12.3% compared to the same period in 2022, while the number of overnight stays was 20.488 million, up by 11.6%, shows the data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics.

According to the quoted source, between January 1 and August 31, 2023, the arrivals of foreign tourists represented 15% of the total reported at the national level. At the same time, of the total number of overnight stays, those of Romanian tourists represented 85.3%, while the remaining 14.7% belonged to foreign tourists.

By county, the number of tourist arrivals in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions recorded higher values in: Constanta (1.347 million people), the Municipality of Bucharest (1.181 million) and Brasov (997,300). Tourist overnight stays in the same types of accommodation recorded higher values in the same cities, respectively Constanta (4.518 million), Bucharest (2.347 million) and Brasov (1.902 million).

At the same time, the most arrivals of foreign tourists staying in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions (including apartments and rooms for rent), at eight months, were from Germany (148,000 people), Israel (120,200) and Italy (119,100).
