Tourism : Over 9,000 Romanian tourists will go on cruises this year

The number of Romanian tourists who will go on cruises this year will grow by 15% from 8,000 last year to over 9,000, estimates Ioan Basea, general manager of Croaziere.net.

“There is a growing trend at world level, Romania included. The product is better known and in demand very year. People who have already experienced cruises get back home and promote this product to their friends. In 2015 we had a 16% increase. Of the 8,000 Romanians who went on cruises last year, 5,000 chose us. For 2015 we estimate a 15% increase,” Basea declared.

Sales will continue to grow in the years to come at a lower rate, he added.

“Cruise lines avoid countries like Tunisia and Egypt. They have also given up Istanbul. Ships no longer approach ports where there have been bomb threats or other incidents, they stop in other cities or continue they voyage without giving up the entire itinerary. Pirates attack cargo ships not passenger ships. Losses were more important in the aviation sector. Tourism is very sensitive to these aspects, as people want to go to a safe holiday destination,”says the director of Croaziere.net.

The best sold cruises are also the cheapest, at prices of 300 euros per person without taxes. The average price is 100-150 euros/day/person for mass lines.

Croaziere.net represents 25 cruise lines and covers 80-85% of the market.
