Boosting economic cooperation between Romania, Georgia in energy, necessary (Min Nita)

Economy Minister Constantin Nita considers the boosting of economic cooperation between Romania and Georgia in energy to be necessary, having in view the implementation of some joint projects of natural gas transport from the region to the European markets.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Economy for AGERPRES, Minister Constantin Nita discussed with Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development George Kvirikashvili, about the stage of bilateral economic relations. The two sides have agreed on a programme of actions aimed at increasing the volume of trade and economic cooperation between the two states. The actions include the organization in July this year, in Tbilisi, of the Romanian-Georgian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation and a Romanian-Georgian economic forum between.

Also, the sides have agreed to hold a trilateral meeting of economy ministers of Romania, Georgia and Azerbaijan, in Tbilisi or Bucharest, in the near future.

During the meetings, Minister Constantin Nita reiterated Romania's pledge for supporting Georgia in the perspective of its European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Georgia is, in terms of trade volume, the main partner of Romania in the Caucasus. On December 31, 2013, the Romanian-Georgian trade stood at 315.52 million euros, up by 22.52per cent from 2012.

Romania's export to Georgia totaled 314.3 million euros, higher by 25.33 per cent, while the imports from Georgia were worth 1.22 million euros, down by 81.9 per cent.

The trade balance is favouring Romania 313.08 million euros.
