Chinese company to invest 300 M euros to extend Nuclear Activities Company infrastructure

Chinese company HiSun PV Technology Co.Ltd plans to invest around 300 million euros in extending Romag-Termo Heating Plant owned by the Nuclear Activities Public Company (RAAN), Social Democrat deputy Rodin Traicu told Agerpres on Tuesday.

He explained the Chinese will build an energy group with 290 megawatt installed power and the electricity produced by it will be delivered to the National Energy System of Romania.

'On January 22-23, the members of a Chinese delegation alongside Economy Ministry officials will visit Drobeta-Turnu Severin (the southwestern Mehedinti county - editor's note), where they will meet the local authorities and the RAAN managers. On the occasion, the Chinese specialists will be shown the technical data and the legal conditions for setting up a IPP (Individual Power Producer)-type company', Traicu explained.

The Romanian official stressed the project is very important for the RAAN Romag-Termo Subsidiary, which must meet the environmental requirements set in the EU aquis and ensure the continued activity of the industrial platform and the coal extraction in the coal-mining area of Mehedinti county in the next 25 years.

'The completion of a new investment at Romag-Termo in nearly 40 months since the contract signing will give the possibility for approving the extension of the environmental authorization, which is currently expired and the creation of more than 500 new jobs', Traicu said.

At this moment, Romag-Termo has 247 MW of installed power and it delivers more than 160 MW to the National Energy System.
