EC requests Croatia, Romania and Hungary to present reports on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency
The European Commission (EC) requested Croatia, Romania and Hungary to present the reports regarding their national objectives for 2020 regarding renewable energy sources, namely energy efficiency, a release of the community Executive shows.
The Commission has sent a letter of formal notice to Croatia for failing to submit, under Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 on the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action, a full report on the achievement of its 2020 targets on energy efficiency and the share of energy from renewable sources.
Moreover, the Commission decided on Thursday to send letters of formal notice to Hungary and Romania for not presenting a full report, within the governance of the energy union and climate actions, regarding the fulfillment of their energy efficiency objectives for 2020.
The Regulation on the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action establishes the requirement that the member states present to the Commission, until 30 April 2022, a report on the fulfillment of their energy efficiency objectives for 2020, established in Directive 2012/27/EU on energy efficiency.
The regulation on the governance also stipulates that, by the same deadline, the member states must report about their objectives regarding the share of energy from renewable sources in 2020, as provided for in Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. The three member states have two months to respond and to remedy the deficiencies identified by the Commission. If it does not receive a satisfactory response, the Commission may decide to send a reasoned opinion.
