Environmental protection expenditure accounted for 10.3 billion Ron at national level, namely 1.2 of the GDP

Environmental protection expenditure accounted for 10.3 billion Ron at national level, namely 1.2 of the GDP, with the largest amounts being spent in the specialized producers' waste management field, according to data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The largest investments in environmental protection were made in waste waters management by the public administration, representing 72.0 per cent of total investments in the waste water management field.
Nationwide, the share of the public administration investments represented 50.0 per cent of the total investments in environmental protection, followed by investments of non-specialized producers (38.5 per cent) and specialized producers (11.5 per cent).
Expenditure in the "production and supply or electrical and thermal energy, gas and hot water" accounted for 30.1 per cent of the total environmental protection expenditure of non-specialized producers, while the "processing industry" sector accounted for 25.8 per cent and the "water caption, treatment and distribution" for 19.3 per cent.
In respect to the environmental protection expenditure, the largest amounts were recorded in the specialized producers' waste management field, which represented 76.6 per cent of the total expenditure in the waste management field.
By environmental fields, the largest expenditure were recorded in waste management (57.5 per cent of the total expenditures on environmental protection at national level), followed by waste water management (18.3 per cent) and expenditures in the protection of air quality (10.0 per cent).
According to the INS, national expenditure included current internal expenditure (on own environmental protection activities) and public administration expenditure (subsidies, transfers), without current external expenditure (mainly representing expenditure on environment protection services from third parties).
