Gloria Offshore Oil Platform, drilling gas for 43 years, to be decommissioned on 1 May
The Gloria Offshore Oil Platform, which has been drilling gas from the Black Sea since 1976, will close its activity on 1 May and will be decommissioned and scrapped, said on Wednesday Sorin Gal, Director General of the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) at the Energy Forum, organized by Financial Intelligence.
"The first [oil] explorations in the Black Sea began in the 70's. The drilling in the Istria perimeter, at the renowned Gloria oil rig started in the 80's. Here I would like to give you some breaking news: on 1 May the drilling of gas through the Gloria oil rig platform will be concluded, the rig will be deactivated, moved to a dry place and scrapped," Gal said.
Gloria is the oldest equipment of its kind in Romania and began drilling on 16 September, 1976, at a distance of 72 nautical miles off the Black Sea, at a maximum depth of 90 meters in the Istria perimeter.
At present, Gloria is owned by OMV Petrom, which exports 10pct of Romania's Black Sea gas production.
