Household electricity consumption down 15 pct in the first three months

 

Final electricity consumption was 12.694 billion kWh in the first three months of this year, down 8.8% compared to Q1 2022, according to data published Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Final electricity consumption in the economy fell by 6.4%, public lighting by 29.1% and household consumption by 15.1%.

Domestic electricity production totalled 4.643 million toe, up 147,900 toe (+3.3%) year-on-year, while imports were 3.291 million toe, down 367,700 toe (-10%).

Power production from thermal power plants was 5.223 billion kWh, down 409.6 million kWh (-7.3%), and production from hydropower plants was 4.728 billion kWh, up 1.353 billion kWh (+40.1%). Production from nuclear power plants was 2.998 billion kWh, down 22.3 million kWh (-0.7%) year-on-year.

According to the cited source, production from wind power plants was 2.431 billion kWh in the period January-March 2023, down by 71.4 million kWh compared to the same period of the previous year, and solar energy produced in photovoltaic plants amounted to 298.1 million kWh, 50.4 million kWh below the value of the first three months of 2022.

Romania's primary energy resources decreased by 2.7% in Q1 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, while electricity resources increased by 2.1%

According to official statistics, the main primary energy resources totalled 7.935 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), in the period 1 January to 31 March 2023, down 219,800 toe from the same period last year.

Electricity resources during the reference period were 17.367 billion kWh, up 363.8 million kWh from the previous year.

Electricity exports reached 31.14 billion kWh, up by 1.654 billion kWh.

Own technology consumption in power grids and stations was 1.558 billion kWh, down 58.2 million kWh year-on-year.
