Level of investments in development of energy distribution network must triple in order to reach targets in 2030
The investments made by the distribution operators in the development of the network amounted to 13.5 billion RON in the last 6 years, but in order to reach the targets that Romania has for 2030, a tripling of them is needed in a minimum mandatory scenario, the executive director of the Federation of Associations of Energy Utility Companies (ACUE), Daniela Daraban, said during The Sustainability Challenge 2023 conference, on Thursday.
In her opinion, for this transition to be sustainable, a larger part should come from grants, because otherwise "everything goes into the distribution tariffs".
Regarding energy, she specified that the coming generations want "a different way of setting up society, a different type of production, a different type of consumption".
"I think we have to be seriously concerned with what those for whom we decide today want. So, I accept the energy transition without so much discussion and waste of time if it is good or not. I think it is good, it is progress, it is an evolution. Now, of course, we have to see how we can do it better. (...) I would like to see a much better alignment between what is envisaged by the regulations made available by ANRE (Authority National Regulation in Energy - ed.n), with what is legislated in the Parliament and what we have at the European level and transposed by the Government. This will be critical for the development of the networks. Time is very, very short, at least in the basic 2030 scenario," said the head of ACUE.
