PM Ponta, Moldovan counterpart to inaugurate Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline this August
Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on Thursday that he will travel to Chisinau this August to inaugurate the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, alongside his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca.
'Romania's objective is the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. The Chisinau Cabinet led by Iurie Leanca, the parliamentary pro-European parties, the parliamentary majority took clear and unambiguous decisions, they signed the Association Agreement, they ratified it in Parliament, they are moving forward on this path, they have already assumed the economic sanctions, they reached a point of no return, a single path, the path towards Europe that passes through Romania, as there is no other way. This process can be halted in November if the Communist Party in Moldova wins the elections and forms the government. ... I'm planning to visit Chisinau this August to release the first gas cubic meter through the gas pipeline, together with Prime Minister Leanca, I will also visit the kindergartens almost completed thanks to the donations of Romania's Government made last December, I will inaugurate the SMURD (Emergency Mobile Resuscitation and Extrication Service) center in Balti, I spoke to Mr. Arafat [state secretary with the Interior Ministry], we approved the last necessary resources this very day,' Ponta told Digi 24 private TV channel.
Other item on his agenda regards talks about the stage of the project on the high-voltage transmission line.
'Things that mean more than beautiful words, they are a very important sign for the population of the Republic of Moldova that Romania and the EU undertake specific measures for their day-to-day lives. Thus, the pro-EU forces in Chisinau have the chance to say that we stand by their side not only with words, but also with very concrete actions,' Ponta argued.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on July 23 that Romania will start supplying natural gas to the Republic of Moldova through the Iasi (northeastern Romania) - Ungheni pipeline in August, as scheduled, this being confirmed also by Energy Minister Razvan Nicolescu.
