Romania working on first hydrogen energy applied project
Research in the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy source is particularly important and, together with the National Institute for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies, the Romanian government has initiated two actions to modify the Operational Programmme Competitiveness to develop the first applied project on this segment, Minister of European Funds Marcel Bolos told a specialist virtual conference on Tuesday.
"When we talk about hydrogen as an alternative source of energy, everyone is at the beginning of the journey and wonders where things are headed to and how they will evolve, especially the research activity, so that the results in this field can be capitalised on. Therefore, research in the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy source is particularly important. Together with the director general of the National Institute for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies, Mihai Varlam, we initiated two actions to modify Operational Programme Competitiveness and to develop the first applied project in the field of hydrogen. We have called the project ?Technological solution for supplying steam to rural communities based on the use of hydrogen.' Just yesterday [ May 25] I had a videoconference with the director general and his team and we really want this project to take shape and see the first results of the research, as this is an area of great complexity posing a series of problems that must be solved," said Bolos.
According to him, funds for the hydrogen research project could come under Operational Programme Sustainable Development.
Bolos added that there are hopes that the time will come "when we say that hydrogen can be the solution to generate thermal energy for public heating or other forms of recovery."
The Department for Sustainable Development within the working apparatus of the Romanian government organised on Tuesday a videoconference called "Ro-Hydrohub, hydrogen as an alternative energy vector."
