Ukrenergo appeals to Poland, Romania for emergency assistance to stabilize power grid

Ukrainian state energy company Ukrenergo reached out to Romania and Poland for emergency assistance to stabilize the country’s power grid, the company said in a Telegram on August 18.

"Emergency assistance is the final and most costly measure to address the energy shortfall in the power grid, which does not entail curtailing supplies to consumers," Ukrenergo said cited by https://english.nv.ua/.

Although energy consumption was slightly below the record high, it closely approached the maximum on August 17.

Furthermore, three power units at thermal power plants were temporarily removed from the grid for maintenance, and only two were subsequently returned to operation.

Given that electricity imports failed to adequately compensate for the deficit, Ukrenergo was compelled to implement emergency assistance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. from the power grids of Romania and Poland, with a combined capacity of 400 MWh.

Commercial electricity imports amounted to 3,815 MWh over the past day.

As of August 4, only 1.6% of Ukrainian heating facilities heavily damaged by Russian attacks during the previous winter have been repaired.

Additionally, a mere 7% of the electrical grid has been restored, as reported by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities.
