PwC: Stock market investors' six-year gains 12pct higher than those of gov't securities investors

In the past six years, the gains of investors in the Romanian stock market were on average 12 percent higher than those of investors in government securities, and the stock market capitalization is 20 percent higher compared to 2007, shows a PwC survey on the evolution of the relative value of companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) over the past decade, presented on Tuesday by Ileana Gutu, senior manager with the consulting company.

"Looking at the past six years, the gains of capital market investors were on average 12 percent higher than those of investors in government securities. (...) In 2017, the stock market's capitalization was 20 percent higher than in 2007 and I am speaking only about companies listed on the primary market," Gutu told the first Impact Investing conference in Romania, organized by BVB.

According to the cited data, the number of the companies listed on the domestic capital market has increased by 5 percent in the past ten years.

"The capital market's capitalization hit 90 billion lei in 2017, there are about 90 listed companies with a rather concentrated sectoral structure: the oil and gas sector accounts for 40 percent, financial services - for 35 percent, followed by the electricity sector," said the PwC specialist.

Another conclusion of the expert survey is that financial services, health and electricity were last year's most profitable sectors listed on the BVB.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange organized on Tuesday the first Impact Investing conference in Romania, an event attended by investors, representatives of funds, banks and organizations that prepare or support local businesses.
