Aurescu and Larsen in Oslo discuss Romania's participation in antimissile shield and Romanian-Norwegian political dialogue

Romania's participation in the antimissile shield, the prospects of the Romanian-Norwegian dialogue and the developments in the international security environment were discussed on Monday and Tuesday, in Oslo, by Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu with Secretary of State in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) Torgeir Larsen.

The two officials also approached the situation in the eastern neighbourhood of the North Atlantic Alliance, in the Far North and in the Western Balkans as well as in the Korean Peninsula, informs the Romanian diplomacy.

'They also surveyed subjects of common interest referring to the human rights and the national minorities in the OSCE and the Council of Europe as well as options and priorities in the field of energy security,' says MAE.
As for the cooperation within the Council of Europe, they debated aspects connected to the protection of people belonging to national minorities, including the possibility of the Norwegian side financing some joint projects with Romania.

When it came to the NATO, both sides reiterated support for the consolidation of the NATO partnerships, both in point of the political dialogue and of the practical cooperation with the partners, and Bogdan Aurescu presented Romania's participation in building the allied architecture of defence against ballistic missiles, including the cooperation with the US in creating the antimissile shield.

The programme of the visit paid by the Romanian official to Norway also includes a lecture dealing with 'Missile Defence in Europe - Implications for European Security. The Romanian Contribution,' which was delivered at the Oslo-based Norwegian Institute of International Affairs. He said that the 'antimissile defence is a project of the present and the future, which aims to create in the NATO a capability apt to ensure the protection against ballistic missile attacks against the territory, the population and the allied forces in Europe, in keeping with the principles of the indivisibility of allied security and collective solidarity.'
