Eurostat: Romania - highest advance in construction works in EU, in February

Romania ranks first in the European Union (EU) in terms of construction works advance in February compared with the previous month, in the conditions in which the construction works volume registered a 0.4 percent decline in the European Union (EU) and a 0.8 percent drop in the Eurozone, as show the data released on Wednesday by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).

According to the available data, the construction works volume increased in ten member states, dropped in three member states and remained stable in Spain. The highest increases were registered in Romania (5 percent), Slovakia (4.1 percent) and Sweden (3.4 percent), and the only declines were registered in Poland (minus 3 percent), Germany (minus 2.7 percent) and Portugal (minus 0.8 percent).

On a year-on-year comparison, in February 2013 as against February 2012, the construction works volume grew 0.8 percent in the Eurozone and dropped 1.1 percent in the European Union.

According to the available data, the construction works volume declined in eight member states and advanced in six member states: France (8.7 percent), Bulgaria (7.8 percent), Hungary (7.1 percent), Germany (6.2 percent) and Sweden (0.5 percent). The most significant decreases were registered in Portugal (minus 20.9 percent), Poland (13.1 percent), Slovenia (minus 11.3 percent), the Netherlands (minus 7.8 percent), the UK (minus 6.9 percent), Spain (minus 4.5 percent) and Romania (minus 4.3 percent).
