Award ceremony for two Romanian officers seconded within the UN Secretariat

On the occasion of the United Nations Peacekeepers International Day, on 19 May an award ceremony was held at the UN Headquarters in New York in recognition of the contribution police and military staff seconded within the Secretariat of the Organization brings to promoting peace and security worldwide.

Two Romanian officers - police chief-superintendent Nicoleta Cristache from the Police Division and lieutenant-colonel Dorina Udroiu from the Office of Military Affairs - received the UN Medal for their exceptional professional competencies and results achieved within the UN Secretariat. The commitment demonstrated in international missions performed in various theaters of operations have also contributed to the UN decision to award them. The ceremony was chaired by the UN Under-Secretaries-General Hervé Ladsous - Head of the Department for Peacekeeping Operations and Atul Khare - Head of Field Support, in the presence of the military commanders of the 16 peacekeeping missions under UN aegis. Ambassador Ion Jinga, the Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN, congratulated the two Romanian officers and expressed his admiration and respect for their professionalism and dedication in serving under the UN flag and thus contributing to the promotion of the image, reputation and interests of our country in the world. Romanian diplomats, military and police advisers from the Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN also attended the event.

Police chief-superintendent Nicoleta Cristache is seconded within the Police Division, being appointed as officer in charge of selection and recruitment of police candidates applying for the participation in UN peacekeeping missions. She graduated the Police Academy "A.I.Cuza", promotion 1990. In 1999, she took part in the first UN peacekeeping mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina as investigation officer for human rights, and in 2002 she worked within the OSCE Mission in Serbia, as instructor at the Serbian Police Academy. In the period 2005 – 2007, she participated in the EU Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina and served in the same theater of operations in the years 2010 - 2011, as advisor of the Deputy Head of Mission.

Lieutenant-colonel Dorina Udroiu graduated the Military School "Nicolae B?lcescu", promotion 1990. Her international experience consists in two mandates as military observer in United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire - UNOCI. The activity performed as staff officer in the Office of the UN, OSCE and regional initiatives within the General Staff of the Romanian Army helped building the necessary expertise for occupying the current post of Peacekeeping Affaires Officer within the Department of Peacekeeping Operations - Office of Military Affairs.
