New alert for frost, snowfall and glaze through Thursday morning

A new alert for frost, snowfall and glaze has been issued on Tuesday. It is valid as of today through Thursday morning.

The weather will continue to be chilly, with temperatures lower by 10 Celsius degrees on the average than the normal ones for this time of the year.

It will be extremely cold at night and in the morning across the entire country, and even during the day in most part of Moldavia.

Precipitations will gradually extend from southwest and seize most part of the country as of Wednesday, with water quantities exceeding 10-15l/sqm in the half southern country and in the mountains.

The rains, sleet, glaze and snowfalls will prevail in Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobruja, while snowfalls in the rest of the territory.

The cold weather will remain in force all through the week, with a higher probability for snowfalls in the south, southeast and in the mountains on Thursday and Friday.

A special weather forecast has been released for Bucharest as well. Meteorologist warned that the weather will be extremely cold as of Friday, 8 a.m. through Saturday, 8 a.m. The maximum temperature will be around 0C, and the minimum will range from minus 5 to minus 3C. It will continue to snow during the day, with a new snow pack in store. The wind gusts will reach 45-55kmph.

Following the pessimistic weather forecast, Bucharest city hall decided to suspend classes in all schools, high schools and kindergartens on Friday. So, over 600 educational units will remain closed on March 23, and 350,000 pupils will have a long weekend.

Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea argued that closing schools “is a responsible decision”, as the local authorities don’t want to put children in danger.
