PM Ponta: Denmark - an excellent example for Romania of good governance, energy efficiency and modernization in agriculture

Improving economic relations and confirming political relationship between the two countries are the main objectives of Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta's visit to Denmark, according to his statement on Tuesday in Copenhagen.

'Our bilateral relations have always been excellent, but good relations must be kept and I am very glad to be the first chief of the Romanian Government who visits Denmark after 2004. The most important aspect of my visit is to confirm the political relationship between the two countries, but also to try to establish more economic contacts,' said Victor Ponta, in a joint press conference with Danish counterpart, Ms. Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

Romanian Prime Minister further said that: 'Denmark represents an excellent example for Romania of good governance, green growth, energy efficiency and also in terms of modernization of agriculture.' He also stated that he assured the Danish business people they are welcome in Romania, a country that needs investments in energy and agriculture.

'I am very optimistic that the Danish companies will invest more in Romania - which is our most important goal here in Denmark - and that we will manage thus to create more jobs in our country and to ensure economic growth, to give people a better future,' Ponta said.

He thanked the Danish Prime Minister for the constant support given by the government in Copenhagen for Romania's accession to the Schengen Space, as well as for the support this country expressed for Romania to play a more important role in the EU.

'I asked the lady Prime Minister to return to Romania and to spend more than a few hours, as it was the case on the occasion of her previous visit, so as to have the opportunity to see more than only the Bucharest City and public buildings,' said Ponta.

In her turn, the Danish Prime Minister showed that the relationship between Romania and Denmark is becoming stronger every day.

'Denmark and Romania have always been close partners and allies, with bilateral relations between the two countries always developing. I am also very glad to see that, as far as bilateral trade is concerned, our relationship gets better and better, which is good for Romania, as well as for Denmark,' said Ms. Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

The head of the Executive in Copenhagen also said that she agreed with his counterpart from Bucharest to also improve the Romanian-Danish partnership in terms of green growth, that they also discussed issues on the European agenda, related to the next multiannual financial framework, and that she reiterated her support Romania to join the Schengen Space.

 

Romania and Denmark sign Declaration on Green Growth

 

On Tuesday, in Copenhagen, Romania and Denmark have signed a joint declaration through which they commit to enhance cooperation to achieve sustainable and clean economic growth and environment protection.

The Declaration on Green Growth between Romania and Denmark was signed by the Romanian Minister of Environment, Rovana Plumb, accompanying the delegation of Prime Minister Victor Ponta in Copenhagen, and the Danish Minister of Climate Change, Energy and Construction, Martin Lidegaard.

'The green economy contributes significantly to economic growth and the creation of jobs. The transition to a green growth pattern requires investments of the businesses environment in technology and infrastructure, and also efficiency in terms of use of resources and environment protection,' said the Government.

The two parties have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in what concerns the EU policies in environment protection, climate change and energy efficiency, and also on exchange of best practices for creating green jobs, promoting new technologies, facilitating business opportunities for the Romanian and Danish companies in terms of savings energy efficient materials management, water resource management and environment protection.
