Romania and the Netherlands have convergent views on the development of military capabilities

Minister of National Defence Mircea Dusa and Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bucharest Matthijs van Bonzel met on Wednesday, stating on the occasion that in the line of bilateral cooperation, Romania and the Netherlands have convergent views on the priorities regarding the development of military capabilities. 

"The six military agreements signed, which create the legal framework for the cooperation between the two countries stand proof of that. The Netherlands has an advanced training center for the neutralization and disposal of explosive ammunition and in connection with this, Minister Dusa expressed interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in this area,'' the Ministry of National Defence informs. 

The Ministry added that the security situation on NATO's eastern flank and in Iraq, respectively, was another topic of discussion. Thus, the Romanian official voiced his opinion that "the implementation of the reassurance measures following the NATO 2014 Summit in Wales will strengthen collective defence, crisis management, but also cooperative security." 

As regards the implementation of the conclusions of the European Council meeting held in December 2013, the Minister of Defence highlighted the importance of the Action Plan on the EU Maritime Security for the European Union's asserting itself as a credible partner in maritime cooperation. 

In connection with the recent developments in the neighborhood of the European Union, Minister Dusa stressed the importance of security in the region and in the Black Sea area. 

In turn, Matthijs van Bonzel praised the good cooperation between the Dutch and the Romanian forces and expressed hope that the tight bilateral military cooperation will continue on the same coordinates.
