The Court of Appeal decided Mircea Basescu could benefit from house arrest

The magistrates of the Court of Appeal Constanta decided on Wednesday to replace remand with that of house arrest in the case of Mircea Basescu and Marian Capatana . The judges decided following the appeal made by Basescu and Capatana against the decision of 20 November of the magistrates of the Constanta Tribunal to reject the requests to be freed.

Starting 20 June when they were in remand, the two requested several times to be freed from remand, their requests were rejected each time. On 14 November the Constanta Tribunal decided the first term in the trial where the brother of the head of state Mircea Basescu and Marian Capatana were sent to trial for influence traffic and complicity to influence traffic respectively.

Mircea Basescu was sent to trial in remand by the DNA prosecutors for influence traffic, after receiving 250,000 euro from the members of Sandu Anghel’s family, also known as Bercea Mondial. In the same file, there was Marian Capatana for influence traffic as well. The two were in remand on 20 June following the decision of the Bucharest Tribunal after the family of Bercea Mondial made public several recordings where the president’s brother admitted to getting the money.

According to the DNA, at the beginning of 2011, after Sandu Anghel was arrested by Olt Tribunal, his son Florin Anghel gave Mircea Basescu the sum of 250, 000 with the help of Capatana in exchange for the promise to intervene with the magistrates to solve the respective case and other requests in the respective file.
