Traian Basescu received by the The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta

President Traian Basescu was received by the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta with a small maritime themes, dedicated to the respective guest taking into consideration his career as a sailor. Basescu paid on Friday evening, after the visit to the Holy See a state visit to the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, dedicated to the anniversary of 80 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and the Sovereign Order.

Basescu expressed his satisfaction for the visit exactly on the day when 900 years since the recognition of the Order was made by Pope Paschal II, a very important event for the hosts. The president thanked the hosts for the charitable activities developed by the Hospitaller Order in our country.The Principe and Grand Master Fra Matthew Festing showed that his Order played a key role in the last 80 years in the domain of charitable activities and social assistance in Romania.

He said that the Romanian Malta Relief Service has over 100 social projects underway in Romania, dedicated to elderly and disabled people, the homeless, as well as interventions in emergency situations.According to the Grand Master, the Romania Malta Relief Service has over 1,2 000 volunteers and 60 permanent employees.President Basescu, his wife and the official delegation of Romania took part to a dinner offered by the Grand Master.
