Abu Dhabi Airports will evaluate airport development possibilities in Romania
Airport operator Abu Dhabi Airports signed a memorandum with the Romanian company South Development Group on Tuesday, to analyze opportunities to manage and develop airports in Romania. This will be the first action outside the United Arab Emirates, Reuters informs.
At present, Abu Dhabi Airports, a company fully owned by Abu Dhabi government, operates in 5 airports in UAE, including the main international airport in the capital of Abu Dhabi emirate.
“We analyze partnership opportunities for airport management in Romania,”said Bryan Thompson, CEO at Abu Dhabi Airports. He pointed out that the memorandum will cover Bucharest airport and 5 regional airports in Romania.
Abu Dhabi Airports, a company set up in 2006 to accelerate the development of airport infrastructure in UAE, is also analyzing such projects with five countries or companies in the airport field. “We are oriented mainly toward Africa, Eastern Europe and Indonezia. There are many opportunities,”said the CEO.
According to data supplied by Airport Association in Romania, in the first semester of 2019, the 17 airports in Romania recorded 10,729,755 passengers, 8% more than in 2018.
