ArcelorMittal will continue to invest in the steel production in Galati

ArcelorMittal will continue to invest in the steel production in the unit in Galati, after the investments of 400 million euro from 2009 to the present, a letter addressed to the employees in Galati says sent by Lakshmi Mittal, chairman and general manager of the siderurgy unit.

‘October 2016 represents an important moment in the history of ArcelorMittal Galati. 50 years ago, the first thick sheet was produced here and delivered to the client. As a happy coincidence in 2016 we celebrate other two events: 10 years since ArcelorMittal was created and has become the global leader in the steel industry but 15 years since Mittal Steel acquired Combinatul in Galati’said Lakshmi Mittal according to a press release.

He showed that one of the main reason which determined the acquisition of the unit in Galati by Mittal Steel in 2001 was the quality of the people.

‘In the years to come, we have met together several challenges. After a relatively good period there came the key moment of 2008 when structural changes appeared in our domain, following the global financial crisis and the paradigm change in the steel demand. (…)After many years of efforts and a remarkable team work we could see the first positive results of the fundamental transformations of Arcelor Mittla Galati.I am aware of the changes and efforts which you have made for the situation to be improved’ the ArcelorMittal chairman said.

‘We will support you in these constant efforts. ArcelorMittal keeps its commitment to Galati and Romania. One of the major advantages of being part of a global company is to have dimension and work domain, which means that the know how of our units in the world can be brought to Galati. We will continue to invest in the steel production against the 400 million euro already invested in Galati, starting with 2009’ Mittal said.

The Galati unit Sidex was bought in 2001 by Mittal Steel which in 2006 merged with the French company Arcelor.
