Competition Council penalized 202 entities in 2015
The Competition Council penalized 202 entities in 2015, up 3.8 times from 2014, while slapping fines in excess of 239.6 million lei (53.9 million euros), according to the 2015 activity report of the council.
"Fines thus surged considerably from the previous years - 1.3 times from 2014, 2.76 times from 2013 and 7.93 times from 2012. In terms of the kinds of violations, 69.19 percent of the penalties regarded a case of vertical agreements and one horizontal collusion; 9.49 percent three horizontal agreements; 6.27 percent 15 vertical agreements; 1.24 percent one abuse case; 13.8 percent - failure to observe conditions under previous decisions of the Competition Council, and less than 0.01 percent regarded failure to provide information," reads the report.
In 2015, the council completed 21 investigations into possible instances of competition law violations.
"The largest share of the investigations of possible violations of the competition law completed in 2015 regarded anti-competition vertical agreements. Four out of the total investigations in 2015 regarded violations of both the Romanian and the EU legislation. The average time for such an investigation completed in 2015 was 4.98 years, with a median of 4.87 years," says the Competition Council.
