EcoMin Nita: Daewoo-Mangalia Naval Yards must become most important in Europe
Minister of Economy Constantin Nita wants the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries Naval Yards to become the most important on the Black Sea and in Europe, according to a release of the Ministry of Economy.
'Even if we are minority shareholders, we have a duty to help the company become the most powerful naval construction company on the Black Sea and in Europe', said Constantin Nita, during a visit conducted on Thursday to the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries Naval Yards and the Mangalia Naval Yard.
During the meetings had with the management of the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries company, the Minister of Economy assured the South Korean side of the Government's full support for the company's development plans.
'The company has economic and social importance essential for Romania and in the Black Sea littoral area through ensuring a great number of direct and indirect jobs, numbering 6,800 people employed, with perspectives for new employments in the coming years', said Nita.
He also visited the Mangalia Naval Yard, where he asked the company's leadership to identify solutions for boosting the company's activity and adopting the necessary measures for closer collaboration with Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries.
The value of contracts currently ongoing at the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries company is around 1.34 billion dollars, which places the company third in Europe from a volume of activity point of view and first in the commercial vessels construction segment.
