SMEs ask an agency reporting to the Prime Minister

The National Council of Small and Medium-sized Private Enterprises (CNIPMMR) requests the establishment of an agency for small and medium-sized enterprises reporting to the Prime Minister, CNIPMMR president Ovidiu Nicolescu said on Tuesday.

"The Ministry of Economy has always been a mammoth ministry and as such it has seen to macroeconomic problems, to large companies, and instead has not taken charge of small and medium-sized enterprises. Let me give you just one example, the Oltchim case. Almost one billion euro have been pumped into Oltchim for several hundreds jobs. This money didn't come from large companies, but from small enterprises. If that billion would have been placed into SMEs we would have set up another 30,000 - 40,000 SMEs and 60,000 - 70,000 jobs. But so, one billion euro was allocated for just 200 positions that remained in limbo after all. That's the Ministry of Economy. We should bear in mind that 24 out of 28 EU countries have a SME agency," said Ovidiu Nicolescu.

He added that official talks have been initiated to set in place a SME's agency reporting to the Prime Minister, but no response has come so far. CNIPMMR president Florin Jianu also said that the setting up of the agency would not incur supplementary costs because it could be established with European funds.

Ovidiu Nicolescu presented the conference the priorities of the Council for 2016. According to him, CNIPMMR requests, among others, the adoption of measures for the creation of a favorable business environment, the setting into practice of Law No. 62/2014 amending the Law on SMEs, rendering operational the special funds for SMEs, improving access to financing, relaunching the investment process, improving the absorption of structural funds, tax cuts and control reform.
