Unemployment rate in hotels and restaurants reaches 60%
The unemployment rate in hotels and restaurants has already reached 60% and risks to climb to 90% soon, considering the present conditions, representatives of the Federation of Patrons in Romanian tourism estimate.
According to a press release sent by FPTR, the crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemics paralyzed activities in tourism.
“Besides these jobless people, about 50,000 people are on a dramatic situation on the littoral, because they stopped work on April 1 and have no other income source. They have labour contracts on a six month period and will not fulfill the 12 months stage, considering they no longer be employed ,”Dragos Raduca, first vicepresident of FPTR said.
According to FPTR, many temporary employees will remain without income, as tourism companies no longer function and will not carry out activities in normal conditions. At the same time, temporary employees can be employed only for a short period of time.
“In these conditions, FPTR requested the issue of a document establishing, for this year, a new contribution stage of 8 months, instead of 12 months, for temporary employees, so that all employees in tourism who work in temporary units could benefit from unemployment compensation this year,” the press release mentions.
