AgriMin:Farmers will have no problems regarding grain imports from Ukraine for 30 days
The minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, on Monday night gave assurances to Romanian farmers that for 30 days no grain of wheat or corn from Ukraine will enter Romania, and the only ones who will benefit from licensing in the cereal area will be Romanian farmers and processors.
At the end of the meeting with the Romanian farmers' associations, minister Barbu said he will convey to his Ukrainian counterpart the point of view of the ministry and the Romanian Government regarding the licensing of Romanian companies, adding that the only ones who can benefit from these licenses are Romanian farmers and processors only.
Also, the Agriculture minister emphasized that in 30 days these licenses must be obtained, both on the territory of Ukraine and on the territory of Romania, and in the event that "they will force and try to bring 1 kg of wheat or corn in Romania", the prohibition order is prepared and it will be given and published in the Official Gazette.
For his part, the president of Pro Agro, Ionel Arion, conveyed that the farmers are willing to wait 30 days for the implementation of this mechanism, and if these decisions are not respected, the farmers will react accordingly.
Minister Florin Barbu added that any government decision by which this licensing will be applied will be assumed and will be discussed together with the agricultural associations.
The farmers' representatives added that throughout this 30-day period they will monitor the customs.
