Auchan won’t take over four Real supermarkets in Arad, Constanta, Oradea and Suceava
The French retailer Auchan, who bought on Friday the shares of Real from several countries, among which Romania will not take over four supermarkets in Arad, Constanta, Orade and Suceava, the Real representatives announced.
The sale has to be approved by the authorities for the regulation of competences and is expected to be finalised in 2013.During the whole period of this process, Real announces that they will continue their activity and the shops will function with normal opening hours.
The Auchan group announced on Friday that they bought from Metro Group the hypermarkets Real from Central and Eastern Europe among which those in Romania for a sum of 1.1 billion euro. The sale of the Real Eastern Europe hypermarkets to the Auchan group comprise 91 hypermarkets Real in Poland, Russia, Romania and Ukraine as well as 13 commercial galleries in Russia and Romania.
In these four countries, Real had a turnover of over 2.6 billion euro without taxes in 2011 and has 20,000 employees. Auchan, in its turn, has a number of 98 hypermarkets and over 65,000 collaborators in these four countries.
The Auchan group, controlled by the Mulliez family owns 10 hypermarkets in Romania, with 3,300 employees according to the information on the site. The number of Real shops on the Romanian market is 24.The trading has been expected on the retail market for several months.
