AUR leader George Simion banned from entering Moldova for another five years

The banning from entering the Republic of Moldova for the chairman of the Party Alianta pentru Romania (AUR), George Simion, was extended for another five years, confirmed for the publication NewsMaker from across the Purt representatives of the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kishinev.

In the Republic of Moldova, the foreigners may be declared undesirable persons if they have carried out, are carrying out or there are serious indications that they intend to carry out activities likely to endanger national security or public order’ the Inspectorate said.

With regard to George Simion, the Inspectorate for Migration stated that ‘it issued a decision to extend the term of declaration of the alien as a undesirable persons on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for another five years’.

George Simion was expelled on 1st October 2018 from the Republic of Moldova being declared person non grata for a period of five years. According to TV8, the interdiction was put into force after, on 27th August 2018 a group of Romanian citizens, participants to the Union March were not allowed to cross the state border of the Republic of Moldova.

The initial reason was the inappropriate and provocative behavior of some people, the refusal to comply with legal procedures and a series of threats in discussions with Border Police representatives. At the same time, the Romanian authorities denied the allegations, saying the young people behaved appropriately, NewsMaker notes.

In March 2021, the Romanian deputy George Simion was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova. The Border Police at Check in Customs Leuseni sent the Romanian official that he had an interdiction valid until 2023. Not even in June 2022, the Romanian deputy George Simion was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova, where there was the joint meeting of the parliaments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

The AUR chairman, deputy George Simion, stated on Friday in connection to the extension for another five years of the interdiction to enter the Republic of Moldova that ‘ it is not a new interdiction, but a continuation of the old one’ mentioning that this matter has been in court with the Moldavian authorities since October 2023.
He added that the AUR positions stay the same, namely ‘the union of the two Romanian states and the disappearance of the Prut border’.

‘Our positions stay the same: we want the union of the two Romanian states and the disappearance of the Prut border. I have been fighting for this for years and I don’t give up on this national cause. By comparison to the rest of the politicians, I would rather stay integral and tell the truth. Irrespective of the consequences, irrespective of the fact that I cannot meet my brethren and sisters from the Republic of Moldova. We go further, for ever and ever: Bessarabia is Romania’ the AUR leader said.
