Bucharest ranks 67th in top of most expensive 77 cities
Romania’s capital city is one of the cheapest cities in the world, ranking 67th of 77 cities analysed by the Swiss bank UBS, AFP informs.
Among the 14 Eastern European metropolises analysed by UBS, Bucharest ranks 11th, before Sankt Petersburg, Zagreb and Kiev. The most expensive East European cities are Ljubljana, 42nd, Tallinn, 44th and Warsaw 47th of the 77 cities analysed by UBS.
This study published for the first time sin 1971, has in view the evolution of the cost of life in 77 large world cities, reviewing products and services compared with average wages for 15 representative professions for the active population. Prices are converted to US dollars.
Zurich and Geneva are the most expensive cities in the world, followed by Oslo, Copenhagen and New York. Paris ranks 12th. Taking into account rents, Paris ranks 7th, before London and after Tokyo. The classification changes according to the purchase power, Los Angeles ranking 1st, followed by Zurich, Miami, Geneva and Luxembourg, while Paris is 33rd.
For the 17th edition of the report, UBS multiplied case studies examining how much a cup of coffee costs in the 77 cities. According to this indicator, Bucharest ranks 50th, with an average price of $2.24, before Toronto, Madrid, Istanbul, Rome or Lisbon, where a cup of coffee is $ 0.74. Inhabitants of Doha pay $6.40 for a cup of coffee, followed by those of Copenhagen and Dubai.
