CCIR: Albania can learn from Romania's experience in terms of accession process

Albania can learn from Romania's experience in terms of the accession process, but especially of the post-accession process, which has shown that bureaucracy and corruption are the biggest obstacles in attracting European funds, said Mihai Daraban, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), on Monday, after a meeting with the new ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Romania, Enkeleda Merkuri, aimed at boosting bilateral economic relations.

"The diplomatic relationship between Romania and Albania goes back more than 110 years old, with the national anthem of Albania whose music is composed by Ciprian Porumbescu bearing witness of the friendship between the two countries. Albania can learn from Romania's experience in the accession process [to the EU, editor's note], but especially from the post-accession process which, unfortunately, has shown us that bureaucracy and corruption are the biggest obstacles in attracting European funds," said the president of the CCIR, quoted in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

The ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Romania conveyed, in her turn, that Romania is a partner of good practice in the process of Albania's accession to the European Union.

"For Albania, your country is a partner of good practice in the EU accession process in which we are involved, and the CCIR can play a decisive role in providing advice on the economic component. There are joint projects in which the business communities of the two countries can be involved, energy being an area of strategic importance for Albania," said the ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Romania, Enkeleda Merkuri.
