Coalition abandon the reduction of the cash payment
The leaders of the governing Coalition, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciuca, announced that they will abandon the reduction of the cash payment limit following a meeting where they reviewed the proposal already adopted by ANAF, which was scheduled to take effect on November 11. “It is my duty to intervene when things are heading in the wrong direction,” stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
However, there will be two exceptions: the cash register limit will be set at 50,000 lei, and the advance for settlement will be 1,000 lei/day.“I’ve always said that I’ll stand by small business owners and ordinary people, without exception. In recent days, I’ve had numerous discussions with them, as well as with the business community and representatives of the banking system. They’ve shared sensible feedback regarding the measures proposed by ANAF and the Ministry of Finance concerning cash. These people are not tax evaders; they are the backbone of this country! Therefore, in the first Cabinet meeting, I will review the proposals from ANAF and the Ministry of Finance because it’s my duty to intervene when things are going in the wrong direction. The voice of the people, of rural homeowners, and of all Romanians is heard by the government! All current cash limits will be maintained, both for individuals and legal entities. There will be two exceptions: the household cash limit will be 50,000 lei, and the advance for settlement will be 1,000 lei/day.
However, I have a message for tax evaders who took advantage of this public discussion: I will come for you! I will come and remove you from customs, from state institution offices, from everywhere! Just as we began the war against those who destroy people’s lives with gambling, you will not escape,” declared Marcel Ciolacu.
The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciuca, also announced the decision taken within the Coalition on Facebook. “Today, at the Coalition’s leadership level, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the measure regarding cash payments. Following our dialogue, we agreed on necessary modifications to protect the business environment and law-abiding citizens. As a result, all current cash limits will be maintained, both for individuals and legal entities, with two exceptions: the household cash limit will be 50,000 lei, and the advance for settlement will be 1,000 lei/day. Furthermore, together, we agreed to continue our firm fight against tax evasion in Romania and jointly promote measures in this regard,” Ciuca wrote.
The decision comes after several weeks of public debate regarding the reduction of cash payment limits. Days ago, the Prime Minister stated that the measure was proposed by ANAF and that there were no objections from the Coalition’s leaders at the time of adoption. Subsequently, PNL President Nicolae Ciuca stated that he did not agree with this measure.
