DefMin Tilvar: France is one of Romania's most important strategic partners

The Minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar, stated on Tuesday that France is one of the most important strategic partners of Romania and a key contributor to the security of the country and the region.

According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) sent on Tuesday, Angel Tilvar received, on Tuesday, the presentation visit of the new ambassador of the French Republic to Romania, Nicolas Warnery.

"France is one of Romania's most important strategic partners and a key contributor to the security of our country and region. The cooperation relationship between our countries in the field of defence has developed substantially and due to France's commitment and involvement in the process of strengthening the security of the eastern flank of NATO, as the coordinating nation of the Battle Group for collective defence on the territory of Romania," said Angel Tilvar, quoted in the press release.

MApN shows that, during the discussions, the two officials emphasized the strategic importance of the Black Sea for European security and the essential role of the Romanian collective defence battle group in strengthening the credibility and efficiency of the collective posture in the Black Sea region. At the same time, both sides expressed firm support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

"On the EU dimension, the very good level of cooperation and coordination was highlighted, including within the framework of European initiatives for capability development. The commitments in relation to missions and operations carried out under the auspices of the Common Defense and Security Policy were also addressed, with the minister of defence highlighting the significant contribution of Romania in the EUFOR Althea operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the consistent participation in the operational efforts on the African continent, considering the importance of ensuring a stable environment in the South as well," the press release reads.

The meeting was also an opportunity to review the status of bilateral relations, respectively, the intensification of political-military contacts and practical cooperation under the training and exercise program, as well as cooperation within NATO and the EU, the quoted source mentions.
