Competition Council signs Memorandum of Regional Cooperation for provision of assistance to Rep. of Moldova and Ukraine

The Romanian Competition Council has signed, together with authorities from several European Union countries, a Memorandum of Regional Cooperation in the Field of Competition, which establishes the provision of technical assistance to institutions in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

A delegation of the Competition Council, led by Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of the institution, participates in the signing ceremony of the memorandum in Warsaw on 18-19 April, together with authorities from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova and Ukraine, according to a press release from the competition authority.

Thus, the signatory institutions will provide technical assistance to similar agencies in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the context of the two countries' European path and ensure the exchange of experience at regional level.

"The Romanian Competition Authority has been collaborating for more than 10 years with the institutions of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, implementing two Twinning projects in the field of competition and state aid and participating with teams of experts in several technical assistance projects on the occasion of bilateral actions. We are thus one of the most qualified authorities to support the Moldovan and Ukrainian agencies to reform competition policies in the pre-accession period to the EU bloc, given the experience we have gained," said Bogdan Chiritoiu.

The actions of the cooperation plan for 2023, organised under the chairmanship of the Polish Competition Authority will be discussed and set out at the event in Warsaw.

The Romanian Competition Council will hold the chairmanship of this regional initiative in 2024, when it will organise a series of events on competition policy and enforcement issues to be prioritised in the coming year.
