Defence minister, UK ambassador discuss defence assistance to Romania
The Romanian-British bilateral defence relations and the best ways by which Romania may benefit from assistance and consultancy on drawing up and conducting the revision of defence were the topics tackled by National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa and the United Kingdom's ambassador in Bucharest Martin Harris during a meeting on Monday, the ministry said in a release.
Also featuring on the agenda of the talks were the process of NATO transformation and the participation in the international missions, the release added.
'The major goal of the National Defence Ministry is to increase the Army's capability. The ministry's budget has increased for the first time and we obtained an annual growth of the budget until hitting 2 percent of the GDP, according to NATO standards', Dusa said.
Harris, in turn, underscored Romania's importance in the relation with Britain and he stressed Romania is one of the few countries having capable armed forces as well as the necessary will to fight, the release said.
You can rely on our support in the modernisation process, we want a closer collaboration with Romania, because it has proved to be a viable partner, the release quotes the British ambassador as saying.
