DefMin Mihai Fifor met his counterpart from Georgia, Levan Izoria
The bilateral military cooperation, the current phase of the relationships between the two countries, as well as the new perspectives for intensifying the defense dialogue were on the agenda of the discussions between National Defense Minister Mihai Fifor and his counterpart from Georgia, Levan Izoria, who is on official visit to Romania.
According to a Defense Ministry (MapN) press release, the meeting was "a good opportunity to reconfirm Romania's firm commitment to supporting the Georgian partner's Euro-Atlantic path."
In this context, the national defense minister pointed out that Romania will continue to actively support the process of reforming and modernizing the Georgian armed forces in order to strengthen the defense system and increase interoperability with allied states, the MApN informs.
Minister Mihai Fifor also expressed his appreciation for Georgia's participation in the NATO Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, the Alliance's most important operational effort.
"The Georgian defense minister expressed his interest in developing the defense cooperation with the Romanian side and mentioned the intention to increase the participation in the practical training activities organized in our country", reads the release.
The two ministers also agreed to launch a regular consultation process to identify new defense cooperation projects, taking into account developments in the current security environment in the Black Sea region.
Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu also received Georgia's Defense Minister Levan Izoria on Wednesday, who was in Bucharest on official visit, with the head of Romanian diplomacy welcoming the pace and substance of the Romanian-Georgian contacts lately.
During the talks, the Romanian foreign minister reiterated Romania's support for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia, referring to the results of the recent Eastern Partnership Summit, held in Brussels on November 24, 2017.
Teodor Melescanu voiced support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the MAE informs.
Minister Levan Izoria conveyed the satisfaction of the Tbilisi authorities to the ascendant course of the Romanian-Georgian bilateral relations and reiterated his thanks for our country's consistent support for the process of bringing Georgia closer to the European and Euro-Atlantic structures, as well as for the availability of Romania to share its experience with integration processes.
At the same time, the Georgian minister stressed the importance of continuing the sustained pace of Romanian-Georgian contacts at all levels, with the objective of boosting bilateral cooperation as a whole, the MAE informs.
